What is a Cannabis Landrace?

According to the Miriam-Webster dictionary, a landrace is “a local variety of a species of plant or animal that has distinctive characteristics arising from development and adaptation over time to conditions of a localized geographic region and that typically displays greater genetic diversity than types subjected to formal breeding practices.”

To sum it up, a landrace is a type of plant or animal that has evolved naturally over time to have certain characteristics and diversity without humans getting involved.

So basically, a landrace is its own wild and ancient thing outside of the commonly-grown, cultivated plants we see today.

Think of them as wolves among human-bred dogs.

Landraces down at VIVA’s farm.

Cannabis landrace strains are as closely related as we can get to the original cannabis plants from thousands of years ago. Today they still exist in the wild, in places like India, Pakistan, Africa, Thailand and Syria.

THCV is found in certain landraces from all over the world, but some have a higher content than others. VIVA has gathered landraces from the above mentioned places to build and breed our own collection of THCV-high strains to bring the magic of landraces and THCV to everyone!
